小雨跟着林秋去了林远以前住的房子。房子已经卖给别人，门口却还有一棵很老的树。
林秋说，洪水以后，家里每天都会收到没有名字的信。有些信要求林远承认自己说了假话，有些信则告诉他们不要找律师。
“后来呢？”小雨问。
“后来妈妈把所有信都烧了。”林秋说，“她想保护我。”
树下有一块松动的砖。林秋把砖拿开，里面藏着一张纸。纸上是林远写给妻子的几句话：
如果我离开，不要相信他们说我逃走。不要让秋秋知道全部，但是要让她知道，我没有忘记大家。
林秋看完后很久没有说话。
“我一直以为他选择了广播，放弃了我们。”她说，“现在我才知道，他选择沉默，也放弃了自己。”
小雨不知该怎么安慰她。她只把纸放回林秋手里。
