赵镇长主动来找陈可。他们在学校后面的长椅上坐了很久，谁也没有先说话。
“你们已经见过方伯了。”赵镇长说。
陈可问：“我爷爷是不是下令打开南门的人？”
赵镇长没有直接回答。他说，赵明当时是镇政府的秘书，负责把委员会的决定写下来。但是那天的正式负责人不是他，而是水坝管理处的主任。
“这不是回答。”陈可说。
赵镇长叹气。“我父亲回家以后，把一只黑色箱子放在书房里。我问过他，里面是什么。他说，那是镇子的命。”
多年以后，赵明去世。箱子不见了，书房里的文件也被清理干净。
“你为什么现在才告诉我？”陈可问。
赵镇长看着自己的手。“因为我一直以为，保护家人的名字就是保护家人。可是这些年，我发现一个被保护的名字，也可能变成一块石头，压在每个人身上。”
