何工住在镇外的小房子里。他七十多岁，腿脚不太好，但是记性很清楚。
他看了孩子们带来的笔记，马上认出那是自己的字。
“我把报告交给赵明了。”何工说，“我告诉他，北门可以减小压力。如果不开北门，南门附近的房子会有危险。”
“他怎么回答？”陈可问。
何工沉默了很久。“他说，上河区不能出问题。”
“那下河区呢？”
何工没有回答。他站起来，打开柜子，拿出一只旧信封。里面有一张收据，证明他曾经把报告交给电台负责人。
“我当晚听见林远在广播里警告大家。”何工说，“几分钟以后，声音被切断了。”
他看着三个孩子。“我应该早点说出来。”
小雨问：“为什么现在才说？”
何工苦笑。“因为人老了以后，才知道害怕真相比害怕别人更难。”
