阿明研究了旧电台的线路图。他发现，主线路从电台直接通向镇中心，另一条旧线路却绕到山上的天线塔。
“如果主线路断了，另一条线路也许还能工作。”他说。
三个孩子带着手电筒爬上山。天线塔下面有一间小房子，门锁已经生锈。阿明用了很长时间才打开门。
里面没有母带，只有一台旧机器和一张写着时间的纸。纸上的时间从九点十七分开始，每隔三分钟写一个数字。
陈可把数字输入电脑，发现它们是旧电台设备的编号。
小雨按下机器上的开关。先是杂音，然后出现一段不完整的声音：
“……水已经到南路。不要听他们的……北门……”
声音很快消失，但是三个人都听清楚了“北门”两个字。
下山时，他们看到远处的水坝灯光。灯光一盏一盏地亮着，像有人正在那里等待他们。
