林秋又来找孩子们。她说，有人把一张旧车票寄给她。车票的日期是洪水后的第二天，出发地是雾河镇，目的地却没有写出来。
“我父亲没有自己买票。”林秋说，“车站的人说，有两个男人陪他上车。”
小雨问：“你为什么以前不知道？”
“因为车站记录也被改过了。”
林秋把另一张纸放在桌上。那是林远写给她的最后一封信，日期是十六年前。
信上说：“我没有逃走。有人告诉我，如果我留下，你和妈妈会出事。我只能先离开。”
孩子们都沉默了。原来，林远不是因为说错话而消失，也不是因为害怕承担责任而逃走。他可能是在保护家人。
但信的最后一行让小雨更不安：真正的录音还在镇上。
