孩子们没有再去修理店。他们开始调查顾叔叔的生活。这个人十五年前来到雾河镇，开了一间小店，从不接受采访，也没有参加过任何纪念活动。
林秋看了他们找到的资料。“他很像我父亲。”她说，“可是我不想见他。”
“你恨他吗？”小雨问。
林秋看着窗外。“我小时候恨过。我以为他选择离开我们。后来我收到那些信，才知道他一直在远处看着我。”
陈可问：“那他为什么不回来？”
林秋没有马上回答。“也许他害怕，也许他觉得自己已经失败了。一个人如果知道自己没能救下所有人，可能很难再面对那些人。”
小雨忽然明白，这个故事里没有一个人完全没有错。有人下了命令，有人修改记录，有人选择沉默，也有人在知道真相以后离开。
阿明把录音放回书包。“可是我们还不知道，谁下了最后的命令。”
